Student Health Insurance

The Student Health Insurance charge of $2,650.00, supporting the annual Rice Student Health Insurance Plan premium provided by Aetna, is assessed to all students enrolled in traditional on-campus degree programs.

Students may opt-out of the Rice Student Health Insurance Plan if their outside insurance meets the Rice University Waiver Requirements.

Fall 2021 Open Enrollment period to enroll in coverage or to waive coverage runs from July 1, 2021 to August 27, 2021. Students who do not elect to enroll or waive coverage by August 27th will automatically be enrolled in coverage and charged the full $2,650.00 premium. Students approved for waiver of coverage will receive notification of approval via e-mail and can expect for a waiver payment to be added to their student account within the upcoming days.
