METRO QCards

Rice University is located adjacent to METRO Red Line light rail corridor. This system connects Rice with downtown Houston, midtown, the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center, and the Reliant Park complex. Additionally, numerous bus lines stops are within walking distance of the Rice campus, including the 26/27, 73, 8, and 34 among others.

The METRO QCard Ride Sponsor partnership enables Rice University Students to obtain a METRO QCard for use on regularly scheduled METRO transportation systems, including the light-rail, during the academic year. Student METRO QCards offer a 50% discounted ride fare, with local METRO bus and light-rail service at $0.60 per ride.

Undergraduate Students

Rice University Undergraduate students are eligible to receive a free Student METRO QCard. Undergraduate cards are loaded with $6.00 and the balance will replenish automatically as funds are used, receiving up to $30.00 in rides per month, at no cost to the student (replacement card fees may apply).

Eligibility

  • Rice University Undergraduate Students
  • Enrolled in a degree program
  • Current Rice ID

Request a new card:

  • METRO QCards should be requested through the METRO QCard Request form. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the order process.
  • Cards will be delivered to the residential college provided on the METRO QCard Request form. Please allow 5-10 business days for delivery.
  • Cards are intended for use during your entire undergraduate tenure at Rice, so hang on to that card! Replacement cards will be subject to a card replacement fee.

Replace a lost or stolen card:

  • Lost or stolen cards should be reported as soon as practical using the METRO QCard Request. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the request process.
  • Cards will be delivered to the residential college provided on the METRO QCard Request form. Please allow 5-10 business days for delivery.
  • A $25.00 Replacement Card fee will be added to the card holder's student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement issued if a replacement card is requested.

Graduate Students

Graduate students may be eligible to purchase a Student METRO QCard at a reduced price of $55.00. Graduate cards are loaded with $250.00 and can be refilled annually, upon request.

Eligibility

  • Rice University Graduate Students
  • Enrolled in an on-campus degree program
  • Current Rice ID
  • Qualifying students may purchase a one-time load annually

Request a new card:

  • METRO QCards for graduates should be requested through the METRO QCard Request form. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the order process.
  • A $55 Card Load Fee will be added to the student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement issued.
  • An email notification will be sent to the student when the card is available for pickup in the Cashier's Office. Please allow 5 business days for processing new METRO QCard requests.
  • Cards are intended for use during your entire graduate tenure at Rice, so hang on to that card! Replacement cards will be subject to a card replacement fee.

Replenish an existing card:

  • Annual replenishments can be requested through the METRO QCard Request form. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the order process.
  • A $55 Card Load Fee will be added to the student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement issued.
  • Cards are loaded with $250 and the price per ride is $0.60 each; approximately 416 rides total.
  • An email notification will be sent to the student once funds have been added to the existing card. Please allow 5 business days for processing METRO QCard replenishment requests.

Replace a lost or stolen card:

  • Lost or stolen cards should be reported as soon as practical using the METRO QCard Request form. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the request process.
  • If a replacement card is requested, the original card will be cancelled and the available balance will be transferred to a new card. A $25.00 Replacement Card fee will be added to the student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement.
  • Refunds will not be issued for unused METRO QCard funds.
  • An email notification will be sent to the student when a replacement card is available for pickup in the Cashier's Office. Please allow 5-10 business days for processing METRO QCard replacement requests.
