METRO QCards

Rice University is located adjacent to METRO Red Line light rail corridor. This system connects Rice with downtown Houston, midtown, the Museum District, the Texas Medical Center, and the Reliant Park complex. Additionally, numerous bus lines stops are within walking distance of the Rice campus, including the 26/27, 73, 8, and 34 among others.

The METRO QCard Ride Sponsor partnership enables Rice University Students to obtain a METRO QCard for use on regularly scheduled METRO transportation systems, including the light rail, during the academic year.

Undergraduate Students

Rice University Undergraduate Students are eligible for METRO QCards at no cost. (Replacement card fees will apply).

Eligibility

  • Rice University Undergraduate Students
  • Enrolled in a degree program
  • Current Rice ID

Request a new card:

  • METRO QCards should be requested through the METRO QCard Request form. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the order process.
  • Cards will be mailed to the address provided on the METRO QCard Request form. We anticipate faster delivery, however, please allow up to 14 days for card delivery.
  • Cards are intended for use during your entire undergraduate tenure at Rice, so hang on to that card! Replacement cards will be subject to a card replacement fee.
  • Cards are loaded with an initial $6.00 in ride dollars and replenish automatically based on card use at the discounted ride rate of $0.60 per ride; $30.00 maximum replenishment per month.

Replace a lost or stolen card:

  • Lost or stolen cards should be reported as soon as practical using the METRO QCard Request. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the request process.
  • Replacement cards will be mailed to the address provided on the METRO QCard Request Form. We anticipate faster delivery, however, please allow up to 14 days for card delivery.
  • If you choose to not replace your card, please note that information in the comment section of the request form.
  • A $25.00 Replacement Card fee will be added to the card holder's student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement issued if a replacement card is requested.

Graduate Students

Graduate students are eligible for METRO QCards at a reduced price.

Eligibility

  • Rice University Graduate Students
  • Enrolled in an on-campus degree program
  • Current Rice ID
  • Qualifying students may purchase a one-time load annually.

Request a new card:

  • METRO QCards for graduates should be requested through the METRO QCard Request form. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the order process.
  • Cards will be mailed to the address provided on the METRO QCard Request form. We anticipate faster delivery, however, please allow up to 14 days for card delivery.
  • Cards are intended for use during your entire graduate tenure at Rice, so hang on to that card! Replacement cards will be subject to a card replacement fee.
  • Cards are loaded with $250 in ride dollars and the price per ride is $0.60 each; approximately 416 rides total.
  • A $55 Card Load Fee will be added to the requestor's student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement issued.

Replenish an existing card:

  • Annual replenishments should be requested through the METRO QCard Request form and will be fulfilled within 2 business days of the request. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the order process.
  • Cards are loaded with $250 in ride dollars and the price per ride is $0.60 each; approximately 416 rides total.
  • A charge of $55 will be added to the requestor's student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement issued.

Replace a lost or stolen card:

  • Lost or stolen cards should be reported as soon as practical using the METRO QCard Request form. A copy of the student's Rice ID is required to complete the request process.
  • If a replacement card is requested, the balance from the will be transferred to a new card issued.
  • Refunds for unused ride dollars will not be issued when replacement cards are not requested.
  • Replacement cards will be mailed to the address provided on the METRO QCard Request Form. We anticipate faster delivery, however, please allow up to 14 days for card delivery.
  • A $25.00 Replacement Card fee will be added to the card holder's student account and billed on the next monthly billing statement issued, if a replacement card is requested.
